NCAA 2nd Round: #4 North Carolina vs #5 Arkansas, 8:53 PM, TNT
The history of UNC vs Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament is an interesting one. In 1990, UNC knocked off #1 Oklahoma in the 2nd Round as a #8 seed. The Tar Heels faced #4 seeded Arkansas in the Sweet Sixteen and got rolled 96-73. Three years later UNC as a #1 seed met Arkansas again in the Sweet Sixteen and got the better of the Razorbacks 80-74 on the way to the NCAA title.
The Razorbacks got revenge two years later in the Final Four knocking off the Tar Heels 75-68. In 2008, UNC was again a #1 seed and Arkansas the #8 seed as the two teams squared off in Raleigh during the NCAA Tournament's 2nd Round. UNC posted an offensive efficiency of 160.6 which is the highest ever recorded by a Roy Williams UNC team. The Tar Heels won 108-77.
Another memorable game in the series was Arkansas handed UNC its only regular season loss in 1984. Nine year old Brian didn't take that loss very well.
For Roy Williams, #3 seeded Kansas beat #1 seeded Arkansas in the 1991 Southeast Regional Final to put Williams in his first Final Four.
Somewhat meaningless numbers: In the NCAA Tournament, UNC is 3-1 as a #4 seed(2-1 in 1991, 1-0 in 2015) and Roy Williams is 2-0 versus Arkansas.
