THB Morning Roundup 8/12

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

A quick look at some of the stories circulating on the internet about UNC athletics and other items of interest.

Football

-UNC continues to be properly rated(?) in the preseason. CBS Sports has a full preseason ranking of all 128 teams in FBS and the Tar Heels are a cool 58th overall. Even then 55% of the respondents to the online poll say that's too high with the rest saying it's too low. If you have to put UNC somewhere to start the season this is probably about right. It also shows how much the Tar Heels historical ineptitude on defense last season has scared everyone away from making UNC a dark horse pick.

-Media day is today for UNC. Head coach Larry Fedora and defensive coordinator Gene Chizik will address the media along with several players.

Basketball

-The ACC has announced the tip times for the ACC/B1G Challenge. UNC vs Maryland which could very well be a #1 vs #2 match-up when December 1st gets here, will start at 9:30 PM on ESPN. That will probably be more like 9:35 or so and not end until close to midnight. I am sure it will have zero impact on the athletes getting to class the next day. The rest of the schedule can be found here.

-Bret Strelow at the Fayetteville Observer takes a stab at the possible pecking order for ACC basketball next season. He is opting for Virginia to finish atop the league followed by UNC then Duke with one caveat. While UVa might win the league they won't make the deepest NCAA run. It seems UVa's ACC schedule will finishing first an easier task for the Cavaliers.
