-A look at various items of interest in the UNC and sports world in general.
Football
-UNC OL R.J. Prince was cited for marijuana possession in June.
UNC OT R.J. Prince faces a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge (half-ounce or less). He was punished already and has been reinstated.

-Speaking of the offensive line, camp has not gone well with a mix of injuries and attrition hurting the unit. Inside Carolina has the full rundown here
-Former UNC WR T.J. Thorpe who transferred to Virginia after last season is injured again. Thorpe suffered a broken clavicle and will miss ten weeks. Thorpe's career at UNC was slowed by a litany of injuries. Apparently that injury bug has followed him to Charlottesville. UNC faces Virginia on October 24th in Chapel Hill.
-I know, I know this is only preseason football but Bryn Renner scored the game winning touchdown for the Baltimore Ravens last night.
Miscellaneous News
-In local radio news there has been a shakeup for one of the morning programs in Triangle. Former NC State football player Mark Thomas has left the local sports talk show on 620 AM. He had been teamed Mike Maniscalco since Capitol Broadcastings began its foray into sports talk in 2007. This past week, Thomas' replacement was announced in the former of freelance writer Lauren Brownlow.
Brownlow(who is a friend of the blog) started out writing for UNC and was executive editor of Tar Heel Monthly. From there she has written for several outlets including ACC Sports Journal, WRAL Sports Fan and Fox Sports Carolinas. Among the ACC media, she is one of the best and should make an outstanding addition to the morning show on the Buzz. If you are in the area and sick of hearing ESPN's Mike & Mike prattle on endlessly about the NFL, be sure to check out the new show when it starts in September.
