Two UNC Records Broken in Win Over Illinois

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

Aside from the straight domination in every facet of the game, UNC also saw a couple of records broken on Saturday.

First up, senior WR Quinshad Davis moved to the top of UNC's career touchdown receptions list with his 22nd scoring catch in the first half. Davis had been tied with Hakeem Nicks at 21 though Nicks' record came with an asterisk due to his involvement in NCAA violations during his Tar Heel career. Davis' record will not be so blemished.

WR/PR Ryan Switzer also took a shot at the record book today. Switzer collected 168 yards on punt returns which eclipses a 64 year old mark set by Bud Carson. During the 1951 season Carson had 166 yards on punt returns against NC State. Switzer bested that by two yards and ended a drought of 15 straight games without a punt return for a touchdown. Switzer's 85 yard return for a score was the sixth of his career which ties an ACC career record.
