Men's Soccer
Two games this week for the men's soccer team including a big ACC showdown.
On Tuesday, the Tar Heels took a 2-1 win over North Florida in Chapel Hill. Omar Holness' first goal of the season in the 50th minute broke a scoreless tie. After North Florida tied the game minutes later, Tucker Hume provided the game winner in the 82nd minute to secure the one goal win.
Despite a soggy night, UNC got a huge win over arch rival Duke on Saturday night taking a 2-1 decision over the Blue Devils. Alex Olofson's first goal of the season in the fourth minute staked the Heels out to an early 1-0 lead. Alex Winn followed four minutes into the second half to make it 2-0. Duke's Zach Mathers cut the lead in half ten minutes later. Tar Heel goalkeeper James Pyle survived a late flurry by the Blue Devils which included saving the potential tying goal with less than 30 seconds left in the contest.
The #2 ranked Tar Heels are now 7-0-1 on the season and 3-0 in ACC play.

Women's Soccer
UNC won twice in four days and in the process collected a pair of ACC wins.
On Thursday, UNC took a 3-1 win over Syracuse in Chapel Hill. Alex Newfield's sixth goal of the season put the Heels up 1-0 in the 23rd minute. Dorian Bailey followed up six minutes later with her second score of the season to send UNC to halftime leading 2-0. Syracuse found the back of the net in the 54 minute to cut the lead to 2-1. Jessie Scarpa tallied her sixth goal of the season five minutes later to close out the scoring on a Tar Heel win.
Sunday found UNC on the road at Wake Forest where the Tar Heels to a 1-0 win in less than ideal conditions. Summer Green's goal in the 17th minute put the Heels up 1-0. It was Green's sixth goal of the season tying her with Scarpa and Newfield for the team lead in goals scored.
UNC is now 10-0-1 on the season and 3-0 in ACC play.
Next up: 10/2 vs Boston College
Field Hockey
UNC moved to 9-1 on the season with a par of wins over the weekend. The Tar Heels scored five goals on the way to blanking Boston College 5-0 to move to 2-1 in ACC play.
On Sunday the goal scoring barrage continued, this time in Boone, NC, with UNC throttling Appalachian State 8-2.
Next up: 10/2 at Virginia
Volleyball
The women's volleyball team split this week's action taking a 3-1 win versus Virginia Tech on Friday then falling 3-0 at Pittsburgh on Sunday. The loss at Pitt was the first ACC loss for the Heels in over a year.
The season has been a bit of a roller coaster so far with the Heels dropping to 4-7 and 1-1 in the ACC following Sunday's loss.
