For the third time this season.
UNC’s Johnson led all players with 27 points and 11 rebounds in an 83-68 win over Wake Forest and led all players with 19 points and 17 rebounds in UNC’s 75-70 win at Virginia Tech. He added two blocks and three steals vs. the Deacons and three blocks and three steals vs. the Hokies.
In the two games, Johnson was 16-of-27 from the floor (.593) and 14-of-17 from the free throw line (.824). He averaged 23.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 3.0 steals. The Wake Forest game was the Orangeburg, South Carolina, native’s fourth of the year with at least 25 points and his third 20/10 game. The Virginia Tech game marked his 11th double-double of the season.
Through seven ACC games, Brice Johnson has staked the inside lane for ACC Player of the year. Considering just his ACC games this is Johnson's body of work(with ACC rank.)
What doesn't show up in stats is the overall impact. Johnson has been a huge factor in getting UNC to 7-0. Should UNC follow through with winning the regular season while Johnson maintains these numbers, it will be difficult not to vote him the league's best player.
