With a Thursday night game coming up that will have big implications for the ACC Coastal race, here’s a look at how the conference shakes out heading into Week 9.
1. Clemson (7-0 overall, 4-0 ACC)
If you’re someone who wants to see Clemson fail to go undefeated, this week may be your last real chance for glory. The Tigers nearly lost to NC State at home, so anything is possible.
Next: at Florida State
2. Louisville (6-1 overall, 4-1 ACC)
Louisville boat raced NC State last week and seem very likely to do the same against Virginia on Saturday. Watch out, Wahoos.
Next: at UVA
3. North Carolina (6-2 overall, 4-1, ACC)
The much-needed bye week has arrived for the Tar Heels, and not a minute too soon. Carolina gets to rest up before Homecoming against the Yellow Jackets.
Next: Bye
4. Virginia Tech (5-2 overall, 4-1 ACC)
The biggest obstacle in Carolina’s way of another trip to the ACC championship game. The Hokies can’t afford to slip up down the stretch, and a quality opponent on the road could be danger.
Next: at Pitt
5. Florida State (5-2 overall, 2-2 ACC)
AP Polls will tell you that Florida State is better than UNC. Those polls are wrong.
Next: vs. Clemson
6. Pittsburgh (5-2 overall, 2-1 ACC)
Today we are all Panthers fans. Pitt is still hanging around in the Coastal picture, and could cement that with a huge win this week.
Next: vs. Virginia Tech
7. Wake Forest (5-2 overall, 2-2 ACC)
Look at the Demon Deacons being kind of respectable! They should be able to pick up another win this week.
Next: vs. Army
8. Syracuse (4-4 overall, 2-2 ACC)
Thank you for beating Virginia Tech, Orange. Love you for that.
Next: Bye
9. NC State (4-3 overall, 1-2 ACC)
The Wolfpack do not have a very kind schedule to close out their season. Beating Boston College is their last hope for a truly easy victory.
Next: vs. Boston College
10. Miami (4-3 overall, 1-3 ACC)
Remember when Miami was back? Maybe not so back. It’s been all downhill since that loss to Florida State.
Next: at Notre Dame
11. Georgia Tech (4-3 overall, 1-3 ACC)
Three straight losses to Clemson, Miami, and Pitt is not totally embarrassing, but it’s not a good thing either. The (maybe?) good news for the Yellow Jackets is that their next opponent might be even worse.
Next: vs. Duke
12. Duke (3-4 overall, 0-3 ACC)
Duke beat Notre Dame! They don’t count for ACC purposes and everything else has been kind of bad in Durham. Really hate that for them.
Next: at Georgia Tech
13. Boston College (3-4 overall, 0-4 ACC)
Can the Eagles find a way to win an ACC game in football or basketball before Christmas? Well...
Next: at NC State
