Friday, September 30

Men’s Soccer: T 0-0 vs. Syracuse

Neither side managed to score after 100 minutes of play. In the end, UNC had two shots on goal, while Syracuse had five. UNC goalkeeper James Pyle was challenged in the first half when he made four saves but only needed to make one more save all game.

Volleyball: W 3-0 vs. Georgia Tech

The Tar Heels beat up on their opponents to win against Georgia Tech. Taylor Leath had 15 kills with nine digs, Taylor Treacy had 10 kills, and Julia Scoles had 10 kills with 13 digs. Sheila Doyle had 15 digs, while Abigail Curry added 22 assists and Mariah Evans had 15 of her own.

Sunday, October 2

Field Hockey: W 5-1 vs. Michigan

No. 2 North Carolina defeated No. 9 Michigan thanks to a four-goal second half. Michigan scored eight minutes into the game, but UNC responded with five unanswered goals to take the game with ease. Eva van’t Hoog tied it in the 16th minute with an assist from Ashley Hoffman. Emma Bozek then scored at 29 minutes with an assist from Hoffman to take the lead for good.

Gab Major scored at 42 minutes with help from Lauren Moyer. In the 59th minute, Hoffman scored with an assist from van’t Hoog, and Moyer finished it out with a goal in the 62nd minute, assisted by Kristy Bernatchez and Julia Young. UNC outmatched Michigan with 15 shots against only eight. Tar Heel goalkeepers combined for five saves on the day.

Women’s Soccer: T 1-1 vs. Virginia

The game ended in a tie, but it might have been a loss if not for a last minute goal in regulation. Virginia scored in the 41st minute, leading the rest of the way until 81 minutes when Megan Buckingham scored off a free kick with an assist from Annie Kingman. Overall they had six shots on goal, and goalkeeper Lindsey Harris made three saves against the Cavaliers’ five.

Volleyball: vs. W 3-1 Clemson

UNC came away with a victory against Clemson after four sets. The team was led by Julia Scoles with 16 kills, three service aces, and four digs. Taylor Leath also contributed with 10 kills and nine digs and Sheila Doyle had 15 digs and five assists. Abigail Curry had 23 assists with nine digs, and Mariah Evans had 19 assists and six digs.

Monday, October 4

Field Hockey: W 6-0 vs. Davidson

UNC absolutely dominated Davidson, outshooting their opponent 24-1 on their way to a 6-0 win. Malin Evert scored the team’s first goal four minutes into the game. Ashley Hoffman added another goal in the 13th minute, assisted by Eva van’t Hoog. In the 24th minute, Gab Major scored with an assist from Lauren Moyer. She scored again in the 30th minute with an assist from Eef Andriessen before Van’t Hoog added a goal one minute later. In the second half of the game, Major was able to score another goal on a backhand shot to complete her hat trick and lead the Tar Heels to victory.

Men’s Soccer: W 1-0 vs. UNCW

A second-half goal powered No. 4 North Carolina to victory against No. 20 UNCW. Nico Melo scored in the 67th minute with an assist from Zach Wright. They had a total of six shots on goal, while Wilmington had zero.
