North Carolina’s loss to NC State was incredibly disappointing. The Tar Heels were beaten on both sides of the ball. The defense allowed 492 yards, while the offense couldn’t make quite enough plays to overcome that.
On the whole, it wasn’t a great performance from UNC. But the one player who stood out for the Tar Heels in this game was Ryan Switzer.
Coming into the game, Switzer had already surpassed his career high in receptions, and he added to that today. The senior receiver had 13 catches for 171 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort.
Switzer’s touchdown came in the second quarter, and got Carolina on the board. The Tar Heels had trailed 21-0 prior to that, and the touchdown helped get UNC back on the track of making the game competitive.
Late in the game, Switzer came up limping several times, and was clearly battling an injury. Despite that, he remained in the game, and made several catches as the Tar Heels tried in vain to come back.
Switzer has been Mitch Trubisky’s most used target this season, and it was the same story today. In his final game in Kenan Stadium, Ryan Switzer played his part in helping the Tar Heels. Unfortunately, his efforts weren’t enough for the team to come away with a victory.
