Tar Heels News 11/9/16: Victory Bells’ new design still causing a stir

Wide receivers have stepped up; what are the basketball x-factors

NCAA Football: Duke at North Carolina Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

ACC Sports Journal | Mark Carroll: The new look of the Victory Bell has been disappointing to most fans, but it sounds like it may not stay divided for long. Ryan Switzer said he planned to have his own can of spray paint in case the Tar Heels needed to give the bell a touch up. Hopefully that’s the case, because it looks pretty ridiculous as is.

Burlington Times-News | Bob Sutton: For UNC’s prolific offense to fire on all cylinders, there have to be a lot of weapons for Mitch Trubisky to turn to. Losing Mack Hollins was a devastating blow, but new play makers have emerged. Most notably, Austin Proehl and Bug Howard have both stepped up their game to become more reliable forces down the field.

NBC Sports | Rob Dauster: Examining the biggest x-factors as the season approaches, who will be the go-to presence in the low post for the Tar Heels? The biggest names to look to are Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks, but both need to improve on their game in order to be considered reliable. Can Meeks finally make that step toward becoming the player he was billed as? Can Hicks be more than a guy off the bench and rein in his fouls?

Fayetteville Observer | Stephen Schramm: What are three things you need to know about the Tar Heels? Replacing Theo Pinson isn’t going to be easy, but Nate Britt and Kenny Williams look to benefit most from the now-available playing time. Kennedy Meeks is somehow still a work in progress, but Roy Williams has seen improvement. The Tar Heels’ locker room got some fancy new updates this offseason while maintaining the feeling of home.
