UNC Fan Super Bowl Viewing Guide

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

A little Super Bowl Sunday to make you forget about the two game losing streak.

The Carolina Panthers meet the Denver Broncos in the 50th iteration of the NFL's Super Bowl will kick off at 6:30 PM on CBS at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.

The Tar Heels have representation on both teams with a pair of recent defensive players. Sylvester Williams who was a junior college transfer that played on the Tar Heel defensive line where he earned first team All-ACC honors in 2012. Williams was taken in the first round by Denver and starts for the Broncos at nose tackle.

For the Panthers, safety Tre Boston has carved out a nice NFL career since leaving Chapel Hill where his play could be a source of angst for UNC fans. Boston is a backup safety but sees the field plenty including tallying a sack of Seattle's Russell Wilson in the Divisional Round and intercepting Arizona's Carson Palmer in the NFC Championship game.

There is another Tar Heel connection in this game though not on the field. Panthers radio play-by-play man Mick Mixon is a Tar Heel alum and before taking the job in Charlotte served as Woody Durham's wing man on Tar Heel Sports Network broadcasts.

If you are into Twitter, the Carolina Panthers account is one of the best out there. For coverage be sure to check out the Charlotte Observer's Jonathan Jones(UNC '12, former DTH sports editor) and Joe Person. Both do an excellent job providing information during the game and are perhaps the top experts on the team and Cam Newton.

Given the Panthers are located in Charlotte, it is reasonable to assume most UNC fans are also fans of North Carolina's NFL team. So while we here at THB wish Sylvester Williams all the best, we are pulling for a Carolina win.

Consider this your open thread to discuss the big game.
