This is UNC's seventh trip to the ACC Championship game in the Roy Williams era and the fifth in the last six years. Since winning the title in back-to-back season in 2007 and 2008 UNC has been to the tournament final in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and this season. In three of those games the opponent won its first ever conference title in basketball(FSU, Miami and Note Dame.) The current senior class has been in this game twice. The loss to Miami was somewhat expected but last season it felt as though the Tar Heels might actually pull it off. With Virginia on the other side and the Cavalier fans well represented in D.C., if UNC finally breaks the drought it will be well earned.

In terms of NCAA seeding, UNC is a lock for Raleigh and probably no worse than a #2 seed regardless of what Jerry Palm might think. The winner of this game likely gets a #1 seed though with Villanova losing, both teams could still end up with a top seed when the field is announced on Sunday.
