Les Robinson Invitational back?
The ACC Tournament opens today in Washington, DC with two games to start off the five day event.
You can see the full bracket here and this is today's schedule.
#12 NC State vs #13 Wake Forest- Noon - ESPN2/ACC Network
#11 Florida State vs #14 Boston College - 2:00 PM(approx) - ESPN2/ACC Network
Wake Forest and NC State are meeting for the third time this season having split the regular season meetings with each team winning at home. The winner gets to face Duke at 2:00 PM on Wednesday with the loser's season ending. NC State playing on the first day of the tournament hearkens back to Les Robinson era when the ACC had nine teams so the #8 and #9 seeds played on Thursday to see who would join the other seven teams in the quarterfinals. NCSU was a consistent participant in the "play in" game leading to it being called the Les Robinson Invitational.
In the second game, Boston College faces Florida State with the Eagles winless in football and basketball during the calendar year. One more loss will cap off what is being referred to as "Double Perfection." Florida State being 11th shows just how deep the ACC ran this season. The Seminoles were 8-10 and had three losses at home by a total of ten points. FSU has plenty of talent and is ranked 48th in KenPom which says they are probably better than the record indicates. Winner of this game gets #6 seeded Virginia Tech at 9:00 PM on Wednesday.
Give me NC State and Florida State to advance.
