UNC Recruiting Status for the 2017 class as of Wednesday, January 25:
Early Enrollees: 7
Committed, but unsigned: 12
Commitments looking shaky: 0 known.
Uncommitted recruits known to be “on the board” for UNC: 3
Current UNC consensus recruiting class ranking: 22.
The Tar Heels received some much-needed good news when earlier this evening three-star linebacker Malik Robinson reaffirmed his commitment to UNC. Robinson, a 6’0”, 223 pound linebacker from Snellville, Georgia had initially committed to the Tar Heels over offers from Louisville, Indiana, Mississippi State, Missouri, and Auburn, among others, but raised a lot of concern when, after his official visit to UNC a few weeks ago, Robinson made clear that he was planning to visit both Indiana and Missouri. With his tweet, which comes a day after an in-home visit from Larry Fedora, Robinson completes UNC’s linebacker recruiting for the 2017 class and hopefully provides some momentum going into the last week of recruiting before signing day. Thanks to this news, our “shaky” counter is down to 0 (may it stay that way).
Tar Heels’ known remaining recruits (Signing Day is February 1):
Ameer Speed, 6’3”, 195lb CB, Jacksonville, FL: Speed’s choices seem to be down to UNC, Virginia Tech and Oregon, with Georgia as a potential wildcard.
A.J. Davis, 5’11”, 190lb RB, Lakeland, FL: Davis looks to be choosing between UNC and Louisville, where he visited last weekend. This looks to be a Louisville-UNC decision, although a late visit to Oregon could change that.
Dazz Newsome, 5’10”, 165lb CB, Hampton, VA. Newsome reportedly did not visit Virginia Tech this past weekend as planned. Tar Heel fans should take that as a very promising indicator.
