Due to inclement weather around the state of North Carolina, UNC’s basketball game against NC State that was scheduled for 8:00 pm tonight has been postponed until 1:00 pm tomorrow. The majority of the area surrounding Chapel Hill received at least a couple of inches of snow overnight and this morning, making roads dangerous. Temperatures are expected to dip below 20 degrees overnight, turning slush into even more dangerous ice.

It wasn’t looking like the environment would be great for playing tonight anyway. Students were not allowed back into their dorms until this morning, and many likely delayed those plans with the snow. The crowd is definitely not the biggest concern here, as safety of everyone traveling to and from the game is of the highest importance, but it would have probably been a very different atmosphere to play in if the game had gone on as scheduled.

Carolina Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham included in his statement that, while the roads will likely still be bad tomorrow, he feels as though being able to drive to and from the game in the daylight is better than the same at night. He’s probably correct there.

Tickets for tonight will be honored and gates will open at 11:30 pm.
