The champs are back at it.

NCAA Basketball: North Carolina Midnight Madness Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Where were you April 3rd, 2017? I’m sure you remember in near-perfect detail everything about what you did and how you celebrated the night the Tar Heels landed on top of the college basketball world once again. It’s a feeling that truly never gets old.

“The confetti is gonna fall for North Carolina. They’re not gonna be denied this time.”

Redemption.

Now the reigning national champions embark on their title defense with their season-opener in the Dean Dome against a scrappy Northern Iowa team. The Heels are without their leader, point guard, and Final Four Most Outstanding Player, Joel Berry. Others will need to step up in his absence in order to keep UNI from dreaming too hard about a potential upset.

Last year’s Tar Heels went undefeated in Chapel Hill, and they will try to extend that streak with a win tonight. Expect to see a lot of classic Roy Williams tonight. There will be a lot of moving parts and lineups that make you scratch your head, but it’s all part of the process of getting these young men ready for what’s to come.

It’s the first night of college basketball season. Everyone can dream of cutting the nets down in April for today. It’s just kind of awesome that our memory of our favorite team doing so is still so fresh in our minds.

As always, Go Heels!
