It was a wild week of college basketball in Week 5, and no Tar Heel Blog writer was able to pull off anything close to a perfect week as a result. Ball State got the best of Notre Dame and Boston College took down Duke to leave even the best prognosticators with some Ls in their wake.
This week is on the quiet side as schools take a brief timeout for finals. The best game of the bunch will be the Tar Heels’ matchup against #20 Tennessee in Knoxville on Sunday. I asked the staff to predict the outcome of various ACC games on the slate, and here’s what they said:

As you can see, Jay had some strong words for his colleagues who didn’t show faith in the Heels this week. Jake fired back with a reminder of one of Jay’s worst predictions while the rest of the crew who picked Tennessee were content to wait and see how it goes.
Picking Tennessee isn’t without some merit. Carolina has typically looked sluggish in the first game after finals, and Rick Barnes’ teams seem to give Roy fits. The Volunteers took UNC to the wire in Chapel Hill last season before a late Tony Bradley block sealed the Heels’ comeback. That being said, never surrender to the temptation to pick against the Heels. Don’t do it.
The leaderboard has a number of writers with 17 wins to their name so far. Matt had a perfect record before it was ruined by the pandemonium of last week. It’s early with plenty of time for someone to separate themselves from the pack.
As always, feel free to leave your own predictions, or critiques of ours, down in the comments below.
