National Signing Day 2017: 3-star LB Malik Robinson signs with North Carolina

The Tar Heels grab another Georgia player with Robinson, a 6’0” 223-pound linebacker.

Despite the coach who recruited him leaving the program, UNC has signed linebacker Malik Robinson out of South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, Georgia. Robinson is one of three linebackers in the class.

Robinson chose the Tar Heels over offers from Indiana, Auburn, Miami, Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame, among others. He made his official visit to Chapel Hill in mid-January before scheduling other visits to Indiana and Missouri. Despite those visits, his commitment to joining the Tar Heels didn’t change.

Coach Larry Fedora praised the energy that Robinson brings to the team, pointing out that his passion permeates through everything he does. Robinson clearly fell in love with Chapel Hill and UNC, which led to his commitment, and no other schools were able to sway that decision.

UNC continues to do very well in the state of Georgia, despite being fully in SEC country with Georgia and Auburn, as well as Alabama, not far away. Whatever they are doing is clearly working well. Hopefully that can continue to be an advantage in recruiting going forward.
