Despite Georgia being firmly SEC country, surrounded by more traditional football powerhouses such as Georgia and Auburn, UNC did quite well in the Peach State for their class of 2017. Linebacker Jeremiah Gemmel from East Coweta high school is just another example of the fruits of those recruiting efforts down south.
Gemmel chose the Tar Heels over other interested schools such as Ole Miss, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Clemson, among quite a few others. 247Sports ranks him as the 66th best outside linebacker in the class of 2017 and 1014th in their national composite.
The three-star prospect worked out at UNC’s Freak Show back in June when he officially visited Chapel Hill. He can play outside or inside linebacker, and is one of three at the position in the class.
Gemmel was praised for his intensity and quickness, as well as his speed that allows him to cover lots of ground. ESPN notes that he may need to add some strength in order to really keep up at the collegiate level, but that shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
You can see some highlights of Gemmel in the video below.
