Carolina put together a strong class again in 2017, but they did it without the type of in-state dominance that has graced top Tar Heel classes of the past. Carolina pulled just five recruits from North Carolina while getting an equal number from Georgia. This continues a trend throughout the Fedora era of pulling recruits from the Deep South rather than North Carolina and Virginia. Florida was tied for third best state for the Heels, with three new players from the Sunshine State while the coaching staff got three commitments from Tennessee kids as well. A single player each from Alabama, Texas, West Virginia and Virginia round out the incoming freshman class at UNC.
