In the midst of the March Madness that is the NCAA Tournament, a couple of future Tar Heels in the Carolinas have received high praise from their respective states in the high school ranks. Gatorade announced that 2017 signee Jalek Felton and 2018 commit Coby White have received Player of the Year honors for South Carolina and North Carolina, respectively.

Jalek Felton has had a very productive final season with Gray Academy. He took his school to the state semi-finals, averaging 26.3 points, 5.4 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game. In addition to receiving player of the year honors, Felton will also be a part of this year’s inaugural Allen Iverson Roundball Classic in Hampton Roads, Virginia April 19-21. Felton will also play in the Jordan Brand Classic in New Jersey on April 14.

Felton is currently 24th on the ESPN 100 for incoming freshman, and the 6th ranked shooting guard overall. This Mullins, SC native is known for being a dynamic, tall guard with a lot of speed and quickness. He will more than likely be an issue for opposing teams in transition, something that fits nicely into what Roy Williams loves to do. If you haven’t gotten a chance, to check him out, here’s a mixtape video for your enjoyment:

Coby White is a 6’4 combo guard from Wilson, NC that is currently ranked 33rd in the ESPN 100 and number 6 for his position. This 4-star recruit scored 1,069 points for his junior season, the most in school, conference, and North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association history. White is another player that possesses a strong ability to get out in transition, has very good court vision, and has proven to be a tough defender. Since it is still early, White has not signed a letter of intent but unless something happens between now and that point he is likely to suit up in Carolina Blue for the 2018 season.

Congratulations to these two gentleman, and be sure to tune into the Jordan Brand Classic to see Jalek Felton in action on April 14.

Go Heels!
