We are so fortunate to be fans of a team that provides us with so many good memories this time of year. There aren’t many tournaments that go by without prominently featuring the Tar Heels, which is a great way to build up memory after memory of the good times.
So while we wait for Carolina to take the court for Final Four action tomorrow night, feel free to share in the comments below what your favorite memory of the Tar Heels in the tournament is. What were you doing to make it particularly memorable in your mind? I’m sure a lot of these will be instances of winning the national championship, understandably, but I’m sure there are plenty of other good memories as well.
For me, the 2005 championship was a magical one because it was the first one I was old enough to remember. I was just 15 years old at the time with my heart set on attending Carolina once high school was over. Seeing them win it all was probably the highlight of my sports fandom to that point. There is still a huge laminated front page of the sports section from the day after hanging on the wall in my room at my dad’s house.
That being said, nothing will ever be able to beat being a student at UNC during the 2009 championship. Watching the game in the Dean Dome and then running like crazy to Franklin Street to celebrate all night is one of the all-time highlights for me. I will always consider myself lucky that I got to be in school for a championship because it’s truly an experience like no other.
So what are your favorite memories and why? Share with us in the comments below.
