Draft Projection: 4th round to UFA

You can’t teach size and length, and Jon Heck has always had it. At 6’6” and 315 pounds, Heck has a nearly ideal frame for a tackle. He was a four-year starter for North Carolina, earning second team all-ACC honors in his junior season (and his younger brother is likely to start on the 2017 Tar Heel line). Jon finished his college career with 48 starts.

The NFL, however, is another matter. Heck’s build makes him a consideration – he has an NFL body – but his athleticism seems to be a chief concern of many evaluators. He is considered a bit slow with a tendency to set his pad level too high, and doesn’t reach second level blocks of linebackers as often as elite prospects at his position do.

The hope for Tar Heel fans is that Heck is rewarded for his four years locking down the right side of the UNC line with an opportunity with a team that is willing to be patient with a prospect who is still developing but has the kind of size that gives him a shot at finding his place in the league.
