The North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team is riding a nine-game winning streak heading into the home weekend series against NC State. The Diamond Heels are in the Top Five in all major polls and boast the third best RPI in the nation. They lead the Coastal Division by a wide margin and are just a game back of Clemson for the overall lead in the ACC.

Here is a recap of the scores from the past week:

The Heels had no mercy for the Eagles over the weekend, sweeping the series against Boston College.

On Tuesday night, Carolina took on South Carolina in front of 10,049 at BB&T Park in Charlotte. South Carolina came into the game ranked in all the major polls. Prior to the game, Coach Williams threw out the first pitch, and it was a daggum beaut:

After the bottom of the second, the Heels had enough runs to go the distance, however they continued to pile it on the Gamecocks. In the first, third baseman Kyle Datres drove in three on a RBI triple to start the scoring for UNC. Datres finished with a game-high four RBIs. The Heels scored 20 runs on 14 hits, leaving six batters on base, compared to five runs on 13 hits and 11 left on base for the Gamecocks. The most impressive aspect of Carolina’s offensive performance was that 20 runs were scored without a home run. The Heels had six extra base hits and batted in all but one run.

The Heels host the Wolfpack tonight at the Bosh. NC State has been inconsistent this season, but are riding a three-game win streak, winning four of the last five, coming into the weekend. They won the series against then-ranked Florida State this past weekend, and have taken games against ranked teams Louisville and Wake Forest. They have also lost to the likes of Campbell, Western Carolina, and Charlotte. Designated hitter Brad Debo is leading the way for the NC State offense. Heading into the weekend, Debo is leading NCSU in batting average (.380), slugging percentage (.546), and on-base percentage (.415). He and shortstop Joe Dunand lead the team in RBIs (27). Dunand has second-most home runs in the ACC (12).

Shortstop Logan Warmoth continues to lead Carolina in batting average (.355), home runs (7), extra base hits (19), slugging percentage (.609), and on-base percentage (.438). His 49 hits this season are fourth-most in the ACC. Starting pithcer J.B. Bukauskas is 5-0 on the season, leading the Heels in ERA (1.41) and strikeouts (75). His 75 strikeouts are best in the ACC and his ERA is just a hundredth of a point out of the top spot in the conference. It is not surprising that these two leaders have been named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List:

If you are planning to attend the games this weekend in Chapel Hill, here is some information from the UNC Ticket Office:

The forecast is looking clear for the weekend, with highs in the low 80s. It will be a nice Easter weekend to enjoy the Diamond Heels at Boshamer Stadium.
