It’s a busy weekend in Chapel Hill. The class of 2017 is set to graduate on Sunday in Kenan Stadium, but the Tar Heel sports teams are hosting big time games as well. In addition to women’s lacrosse and men’s tennis, the women’s tennis team is hosting a regional at the Cone-Kenfield tennis center.
The Tar Heels, the No. 2 seed, will host Furman, Ole Miss, and William & Mary for matches that begin at 9 am on Saturday. First up will be Ole Miss and William & Mary before the Tar Heels take on Furman at 12:00 pm.
Winners of those respective matches will advance to Sunday’s matchup for the right to head to Athens, Georgia, where the NCAA championship is being held. Action on Sunday gets underway at 3:00 pm.
Carolina won the ACC championship, beating out Georgia Tech in the title game in thrilling fashion. It came down to the Tar Heels needing to win each of their last two matches against the Yellow Jackets, and they did just that - seconds apart. They have won 10 matches in a row entering this weekend.
UNC is led by the phenomenal Hayley Carter, who was named ACC Player of the Year and is ranked second in Division 1 women’s tennis in singles. Carter is the all-time winningest singles player in ACC history with 165 wins to her name in a Carolina uniform.
Some expected inclement weather in Chapel Hill could force the matches indoors, and gates will open at 8:00 am. Tickets for all day are $5. Good luck to the Heels!
