The ACC Coastal Division champion Diamond Heels have earned the No. 2 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, and will be hosting regional games in Chapel Hill this weekend. Nothing changed about the Heels’ placement in the tournament because of their loss to Florida State in the ACC Tournament championship, as they are still just one spot behind Oregon State.

As one of the top eight seeds in the tournament, Carolina would host games straight through to the College World Series at Boshamer Stadium if they can advance to the Super Regionals. It’s a big advantage for the best teams to play at home and require another team to beat them twice on their home field.

Carolina opens against the 4-seed in the regional, Davidson (32-24), at 6 pm on Friday. Florida Gulf Coast (42-18) is the 2-seed in the regional, and they will be taking on 3-seed Michigan (42-15) Friday afternoon. The Chapel Hill regional is matched up with the Houston regional on that side of the bracket.

The Houston draw is a tough one for the Heels, but this is an incredibly talented team. Having home field advantage should help them even if they do have to face a good team like Houston. Of course, that is no guarantee. Both teams have to make it there first.

UNC should be one of the favorites to make it to Omaha for the College World Series because of their high seeding and how well they have played all season. Hopefully the weather can cooperate in a way it certainly didn’t in the ACC Tournament for the Heels.
