North Carolina recruiting: Two Tar Heel commits attending Nike’s The Opening

One of the top recruiting camps in the nation will feature two future Tar Heels.

The Opening

North Carolina put on a successful camp very recently with Larry Fedora’s Freak Show paying dividends on the recruiting trail for the Tar Heels. Following that, the nation’s best recruits will be traveling to Nike’s Headquarters in Beaverton, OR, for the top non-university sponsored recruiting event The Opening.

The Opening features a number of events for the recruits, including everything from position drills to a 7-on-7 tournament. The multi-day event will have 166 of the best future college players squaring off against each other.

Two Tar Heel commits will be attending the event: Quarterback Tyler Shough and linebacker Payton Wilson. Having two four-star guys representing UNC at such a prestigious event for college football players really shows the direction that recruiting is going right now for the Heels.

Quarterbacks arrive at The Opening on Thursday for two days of QB-centric activities. The more main events get underway Saturday and Sunday. In the 7-on-7 pool play, Shough will be helping to lead Team Untouchable against four other teams. Shough had to make the cut against some of the best QBs in the country at the Elite 11 finals in LA earlier in the month to make it to this point, so it will be very exciting to see what he can do up against such elite competition.

The event won’t be televised like it was in years past, but the age of technology allows us to follow along regardless. A couple Twitter accounts you may want to follow if you want to stay informed about the happenings from Oregon are @SBNRecruiting and our own account @TarHeelBlog.

Even though the Tar Heels didn’t get the news we were hoping for from Zamir White earlier this week, things are still looking up on the football recruiting front. Having two guys make a strong impression at The Opening would continue that trend. We’ll keep you updated on the happenings.
