ACC Football Predictions: Week 1

Welcome to the first Tar Heel Blog ACC football game predictions of the season. Each week your slightly esteemed and highly educated THB staff will give their picks for that week’s upcoming games. Some of our methods are surprisingly scientific while others may hinge on who has the coolest alternate uniform in any given week.

As the season goes along, we’ll keep a running leader board to keep track of who is the smartest, luckiest, and best looking staff member. This will be determined by their ability to pick the most winners from week to week. If a staff member misses a week due to unforeseen circumstances, they are automatically out of the running for any post-season awards. Any other penalties are currently being discussed.

You will find that, at times, we may give some teams loving and endearing nicknames. We are confident they would approve of our familial joking. Trust us.

This week there aren’t too many surprises. The biggest disagreements revolve around the FSU-Bama contest and how to appropriately spell N.C. State. That second argument may never be resolved, but we’ll see what our creative writers can come up with as the season continues. We are also doing some investigative reporting to find out if Boston College still even has a team. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, enjoy the games this weekend. It'll be the last time many fans actually have unbridled hope for a successful season.

Below are this week’s selections. The home team is on the bottom of the match-up. Neutral site games are in italics. (Disclaimer: This does not include either of the Techs. VaTech plays on Sunday, and Georgia Tech plays on Monday. When compiling the weekly picks, I stupidly assumed that the NCAA cares about the students and would never allow televised primetime football to be played every single day of the week. I apologize.)
