While North Carolina has been able to hold serve at home in conference play, their results on the road have been less certain. Yes, the Tar Heels were able to defeat Notre Dame in South Bend, but it was heart-stoppingly close to a defeat. Their games against Florida State and Virginia ended up in the loss column.
So UNC has the chance tonight to head to Blacksburg and pick up their fifth straight win. Their road woes at Notre Dame were mainly surrounding the inability to rebound the ball, which was not at all an issue at home against Georgia Tech on Saturday. Hopefully those results hold in the quick turnaround. If the Heels can pull off a victory on the road they’ll move alone into third place in the ACC.
On the Hokies’ side, Buzz Williams’ group is coming off two straight losses to Louisville and Florida State. Before that they had picked up a couple conference wins against Pitt and Wake Forest. They are currently 13th in the country in scoring at 85.6 points per game. Rebounding is where they are vulnerable, though, and that’s exactly where Carolina should make them pay.
We’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the game, as always. Until then...
Go Heels!
