North Carolina got a scare in their first taste of ACC action on Saturday against Wake Forest in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels managed to outlast the Demon Deacons, but it took a late 8-0 rally to pull it off. Florida State on the road should be an even tougher test for UNC.
The Seminoles played Duke tough in their ACC opener at Cameron on Saturday, scoring 93 points in a losing effort. It was just the second game that Florida State has lost all year with the other coming against Oklahoma State in the Orange Bowl Classic. FSU is 23rd in the nation in points per game with 85.7.
UNC’s season stats to this point are very similar to those of FSU. The Heels are averaging 85.2 points per game with a 47% FG% to Florida State’s 49%. Carolina has been better on the boards, and they’ll need to be better tonight if they want to pull off the victory on the road.
Tonight’s game is the first of two very difficult road contests for the Heels before returning to Chapel Hill next Wednesday. The results of those two games should tell us a lot about the state of the team that has looked a bit out of sorts at times lately.
As always, we’ll be back after the game with a full wrap up of the happenings. Until then...
Go Heels!
