The lowly North Carolina Tar Heels are not even a blip on the radar.
Biggest Losers
As mentioned previously, Virginia Tech’s loss to Notre Dame in Blacksburg was enough to bump them out of the poll.
After rejoining the poll after exiting a couple weeks ago, Oklahoma State is unranked again after a home loss versus an Iowa State team led by their third-string quarterback.
Michigan State led late in the third quarter, but two unanswered touchdowns by Northwestern pushed the Wildcats to victory and the Spartans out of the poll.
Utah came out firing against Stanford, jumping out to a 21-0 lead. The Cardinal fought back to get it within six late in the third quarter, but the Utes kept their foot on the gas. Stanford was dropped completely from the poll after being ranked no. 14.
Auburn fell the most spots of any team that remained ranked. The Mississippi State defense did not allow a touchdown versus the Tigers and Auburn dropped 13 spots this week.
Biggest Winners
Texas A&M, South Florida, Mississippi State, and Cincinnati joined the rankings this week. These four teams entered the poll in the last four slots, nos. 22 through 25.
Texas moved up 10 spots in the poll to land inside the top ten with their thrilling 48-45 victory over then-ranked no. 7 Oklahoma.
Florida’s two scores in the fourth quarter sealed the upset victory over LSU. The Gators gained eight spots in the ranking this week.
On the Outside Looking In
Iowa is the first team out of the poll this week. After that, there is a big gap between the 26th team and the rest of the teams receiving votes.
Appalachian State received some votes this week, with their highest rank on a ballot coming in at no. 21.
