ACC Football: Week 8 Staff Predictions

Virginia really messed up our predictions, which is both a blessing and a curse.

NCAA Football: Virginia at Duke Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

ACC football is coming off of a week that only had four games, but rest assured, there was at least one game that kept things nice and interesting. The Virginia Cavaliers managed to find a way to take down the Duke Blue Devils by 14 points, effectively giving each and every one of us here at THB at least one loss for the week. It’s never not a blessing when a team can take down Duke in any sport (literally, any sport), and so while it may have burdened some of my colleagues by making it hard to play catch-up, I don’t think anybody is really complaining about this one. Props to Jake, however, for being the only one to guess it correctly. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t impressed.

Looking at the results of the other games, the two games that had us torn were the UNC game against Syracuse, and Wake Forest vs. Florida State. The results of both games made even more of a mess, with Syracuse spoiling the Heels’ hopes of getting their first non-Pitt Power Five win since the Trubisky years, and Florida State proving that they still have a little bit of Florida State in them. Jacob was the one lone soul who picked NC State to win against Clemson, and to be honest, it wasn’t a bad pick. It was reasonable to think the Wolfpack would finally get over the hump against the Tigers, but alas, State’s super easy schedule wasn’t beneficial in preparing them for that big of a beatdown.

Let’s take a look at what our staff is predicting for this coming weekend:

After tallying up the scores, it’s become clear to me that I am 100 times better at picking the results of games than I am doing any fantasy football leagues. When it comes to actual percentages of how many picks everyone has correct, things are a bit closer than they look. With everyone’s crazy schedules, we may have to reveal what the current rankings are in terms of correct pick percentage very soon.

As far as this this week’s picks go, there are a whopping five games that the staff are having a hard time agreeing on. Personally, I have a hard time deciding whether or not UNC will have enough this time around to take down Virginia. With the Wahoos coming off of a good win against Duke and UNC coming off of another soul-crushing weekend, each team has a reason to prove something in Charlottesville. It should be another fun week of ACC football, and you should let us know who you have winning each game in the comments below.
