Happy Thanksgiving to all of our readers! There have been a couple of major events as far as UNC recruiting goes this holiday week, and the biggest hasn’t even happened yet. Chew on this (and actual food) in the meantime:

Football:

• All eyes are on Sam Howell, the FSU-committed quarterback who has been flirting with UNC ever since his commitment, including, most recently, taking an official visit to campus for the Western Carolina game. Larry Fedora has apparently been relentless in his pursuit of one of the best senior quarterbacks in the nation, and he’s apparently making a mark. There are no guarantees, but Howell’s actions are fairly telling that he’s preparing to flip.
• This is happening while Fedora tries to attract Kelly Bryant to campus as well, in case you forgot. It’s unclear if UNC would take both, if that were to somehow play out. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t, but roster quotas get weird sometimes.

Basketball:

• The recruiting world was shocked when 2020 phenom Anthony Edwards announced that he’d be reclassifying to 2019, making him easily the best player in the 2019 class. Our Jake Lawrence has an excellent article reading into what this means for UNC, so go check that out. Two things to add, though: First of all, Edwards is arguably the best high school player in the country regardless of class, according to both me and the SB Nation main page. Secondly, a lot of the early smoke is that Edwards’ likely destination is Florida State, so don’t get your hopes up on this one until we have more information.
• Vernon Carey, Jr. dropped a top 3 yesterday of UNC, Duke, and Michigan State, dropping Miami and Kentucky from his top 5. UNC’s inclusion there is a surprise, but it doesn’t change the fact there have been almost no connections between the big man and the Tar Heels.
• Zeke Nnaji announces his college decision on Friday, specifically at 11:23 Eastern (11:23 on 11/23. He’s got a sense of humor). The UNC buzz is strong, but UNC has already missed on a couple of targets this cycle where they had strong buzz before their late arrival proved to be their undoing. We’ll see what happens.
