Well, that was an exciting week. Mack Brown has nearly completed his new coaching staff, headlined by the hires of Jay Bateman for Defensive Coordinator and Phil Longo for Offensive Coordinator. As one would expect, that’s lead to more recruiting potential, as guys typically like to know who they’ll be playing for. And yes, we’ve got a couple more football commits to discuss. As I said last week, though, don’t expect much on the basketball side. Let’s get to it:

Football

• Defensive back Kenan Johnson became the latest 2019 class member to decommit, ruining the chance for great team-name synergy. Johnson was rated a little higher than most of the guys who have decommitted, for whatever that’s worth in a class that was ranked in the 80’s.
• Filling his spot were Florida safety Khadry Jackson, who decommitted from Pitt two days before announcing a commitment to UNC, and Charlotte wide receiver Justin Olson. Both are three-star prospects. Olson doesn’t have much of a profile on any of the big recruiting sites, but several Charlotte-area coaches, including former Tar Heel and Inside Carolina contributer Jason Staples, have raved about him.
• Your weekly Sam Howell update is a little lacking this week, as he’s been at the Shrine Bowl and hasn’t had time for media availability. That said, he has publically said he’s a fan of the Air Raid, and Florida State still doesn’t have an offensive coordinator.

Basketball

• Anthony Edwards has apparently decided where he’s taking his five official visits, and they will be to Georgia, Duke, Florida State, Michigan State, and Kansas. Until he tells us otherwise, we can probably take that as a top 5 for him. Bummer. He did make sure to say that he “likes Coach Roy,” though.
• As reported earlier this week, Roy Williams has offered a third scholarship in the Class of 2020, to small forward Ziaire Williams. It’s shaping up to be a battle between Roy and his protege for Ziaire’s services, as the other school considered to be in contention for the wing is Jerod Haase’s Stanford.
