UNC Basketball: UNCW Game thread

Late o’clock basketball from Chapel Hill.

Former assistant coach C.B. McGrath brings his UNC Wilmington squad to Chapel Hill this evening for a game in which the Tar Heels will, once again, be short-handed. Starting point guard Coby White will miss tonight’s game as a precautionary measure due to an ankle injury.

This puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the trio of senior starters, Luke Maye, Cameron Johnson, and Kenny Williams. The three struggled mightily in UNC’s loss at Michigan, and with White’s offense missing from tonight’s game, the Heels can’t afford for their three veteran leaders to no-show again.

We are in a very strange period of the schedule for Carolina. They play approximately one game per week until New Year’s. It makes for good practice time to correct the errors that have given them two early season losses to Texas and Michigan. However, it’s a frustratingly long time to right the ship after losses, as it has been since we last saw them play in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.

Hopefully the Tar Heels come ready to play tonight. Few coaches are going to know how to prepare for any and everything Roy Williams might throw at them like McGrath. Here’s hoping it won’t matter in the end.

As always, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...

Go Heels!
