There is finally a little light at the end of the tunnel for North Carolina. Tonight’s game against Notre Dame at the Dean Dome wraps up a three-games-in-five-days stretch in which UNC has already taken down Duke at home and NC State on the road. Can they make it a clean sweep against the Fighting Irish?
Carolina got a monster game from Luke Maye on Saturday in Raleigh when he hit an incredible 15 field goals on his way to 33 points. Kenny Williams and Joel Berry II combined for 41 of the 82 points the Heels scored against Duke on Thursday in that victory. Who will step up and be tonight’s hero?
The end of a long slog of so many games on such a short turnaround has to be difficult. You worry a bit about fatigue and emotional letdown being an issue for a team that has seemed a little off focus at times this year after two seemingly bigger games, but beating Notre Dame carries great importance in the race for a double bye in the ACC Tournament.
Notre Dame has won their last two games against Boston College and Florida State, respectively, after snapping a seven-game losing streak. Matt Farrell has returned from his ankle injury that kept him out of the game last time the Heels played ND, and he’s coming off a career-high 28-point performance against the Seminoles two days ago. UNC will have to find a way to contain him, as well as finding a way to perform much better on the boards than they did in South Bend.
We’ll be back after the game, as always, with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...
Go Heels!
