A strong showing in the ACC Tournament has paid dividends for the UNC Tar Heels, as their nation-leading 13 Quadrant 1 wins were rewarded with a #2 seed and ownership of the second Charlotte pod. The Heels were, somewhat confusingly, placed in the West Region, but will play their first two games in Charlotte, given, of course, that they get that far. Xavier is the #1 seed in the region, and as they are the 4th #1 seed, this means in theory that UNC was named the strongest #2 seed. Here is the lower half of the West Bracket, detailing UNC’s path to the Sweet 16:

UNC will open against Atlantic Sun conference Champions Lipscomb, who will be in their first ever NCAA Tournament. They should be heavily favored in this game. If they were to win, they would play the winner of Texas A&M/Providence. Providence may have more tournament experience, but A&M is a much better team, so this will be one to watch. A more detailed look at UNC’s region will follow this article shortly.
