The Heels begin their title defense in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament.

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Charlotte Practice Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The national champions are back in action in the NCAA tournament this afternoon, taking on the Lipscomb Bisons in Round One from Charlotte. The Tar Heels were able to secure opening the tournament in-state with their defeat of Duke in the ACC Tournament last week.

Yesterday’s tournament action went largely chalk except for Loyola-Chicago knocking off Miami and Buffalo dismantling Arizona. Will the same be true for today? At least in terms of UNC, we hope so.

Cameron Johnson was injured in the ACC Tournament but is healthy enough to suit up for today’s game. Hopefully he is actually fully healthy and won’t be trying to play through something nagging. Luke Maye is coming off a resurgent performance at the end of the conference tournament that he is hopefully able to carry through to the one that really matters. Theo Pinson was also a force in Brooklyn. It’s a good sign that the team is firing on almost all cylinders.

Roy Williams always prepares his team for this moment and it looks like he has them playing their best basketball of the season. Coach told them on Selection Sunday that he honestly believed they were good enough to win it all. Here’s hoping that he was right and that it comes true.

As always, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...

Go Heels!
