The Diamond Heels pulled off a sweep of NC State in Raleigh for the first time ever last weekend, and they were rewarded for their feat with a new ranking. Baseball America has the Tar Heels at #5 in the nation this week after being #10 the week prior.
Carolina is now on top of the ACC Coastal division with an 18-6 record in the conference. They lead 15-8 Duke as their closest competition. The Clemson Tigers currently lead the Atlantic division with a 17-7 conference record.
With conference play drawing to a close, the Heels have a couple important series coming up. They’ll travel to Durham next weekend for a three-game set against the Blue Devils with huge Coastal division implications. They’ll also finish the season with a weekend series against Virginia Tech on May 17, 18, and 19. The Hokies are currently in the basement of the Coastal division, which will hopefully give UNC a way to tune up before the ACC Tournament begins.
You can catch the Diamond Heels in action at Boshamer Stadium tonight against UNC Asheville. They’ll also be back in Chapel Hill next week with a game against Richmond on May 8. The ACC Tournament will be held at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park from May 22 through May 27.
