A quick commitment goes UNC’s way, and now we get one that doesn’t. What do we look for now in basketball? And will football recruiting start looking up again? Find out below:
Football News
- I talked last week about Tony Davis and Marlyn Johnson as commitment candidates to UNC. While Davis won’t commit until September 21st and Johnson until later, add a name to the watch list: 3-star offensive lineman Asim Richards really likes the UNC program and could finalize a decision sooner rather than later.
- The beginning of the high school season has really put a spotlight on the versatility of many of UNC’s commitments for the 2019 class. Brendon Harrington played almost all over the field in his first game, ditto with Coleman Reich, and long snapper Drew Little is a standout linebacker for North Stanly.
Basketball News
- Last week, I mentioned Armando Bacot’s readiness to recruit his friends to the Hill. Since then, Brandon Anderson of THB wrote a great article about just that. Check it out.
- One of the guys Bacot mentioned, however, namely Tre Mann, doesn’t look like he’ll be joining Bacot in Tar Heel Blue, as he has committed to hometown Florida. This was a slight surprise, as his recruitment seemed to be tending UNC’s way, but you can’t blame a guy for going with the hometown school that had been on him since the beginning.
- This leaves UNC in a bit of a tight spot, though, as Jeremiah Francis’ setback has had the coaches looking for another point guard in the 2019 class. The only one they have offered who has yet to commit is Cole Anthony, whose recruitment is going to be... difficult.
- Jeremiah Robinson-Earl has scheduled an official visit to UNC on the weekend of September 21st, which coincides with the UNC football team hosting Pittsburgh. His Kansas official visit will be the following weekend.
