UNC Football looks for revenge in season-opener against Cal

Annnnnnd we’re back!

NCAA Football: North Carolina at Georgia Tech Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

For most Tar Heels fans, there is still a lingering unpleasant taste in their mouths following last year’s football season. It went horribly, to say the least, and a three-win season definitely dampened expectations for what this one might be for some.

We’ve made it to the beginning of the season now and there is certainly no better time to be optimistic. All the potential in the world is there for a good season from Carolina, all they have to do is execute. In many ways it feels like this season is destined to go better than the last purely from a law of averages standpoint. UNC experienced what had to be close to record-breaking bad injury luck last season, and hopefully all those demons have been exorcised from Chapel Hill.

Carolina begins their season on the other side of the United States in a game against a familiar opponent from last year. The game in Chapel Hill was very winnable for the Tar Heels, but things fell apart for them and it was just one of a number of disappointing finishes. They have the chance to right that wrong and get some revenge on the road to kickoff their brand new season.

Will the Tar Heels be able to get back to a bowl game this year? Will Larry Fedora survive the year if they don’t? Will the offense be able to gain some respectability? These are the questions that will linger over the next several months, but for today, there is reason for hope.

If you’re finding Tar Heel Blog for the first time, welcome! We’re glad to have you. If you’re back for another season, we’re happy to have you back. We’ll be back after the game with all of the roundups and analysis you could want. In the mean time, feel free to follow along with the game and comment alongside fellow Heels fans here in our game thread.

As always, Go Heels!
