UNC Recruiting: Week of 9/17

Two important basketball visits are scheduled for this week.

Football and basketball are opposites right now on the recruiting front. There is not much to report on football, while things are starting to heat up on the basketball recruiting trail.

Football News

  • J.R. Walker, a four-star athlete from Clayton, NC was scheduled for an official visit to UNC on September 15. With the university closed and football game cancelled due to Hurricane Florence, this did not take place.
  • As announced by Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham last night on Larry Fedora Live and reported by Inside Carolina, the indoor football practice facility should be operational by mid-season. This should be a help in the football facilities arms race and a good talking point once the contact period opens up on November 25.

There is no movement on the big board. Here is a look at 2019 commits:

One of the most interesting battles on the board will be for top prospect Cole Anthony. The 24/7 Sports Crystal Ball predictor favors Duke at 60 percent probability of commitment, while the PASR Forecast favors Carolina at 53.08 percent. With his UNC visit taking place sooner rather than later, it will be a fascinating recruitment between the rivals for months to come.

Last week, Inside Carolina’s Ross Martin shared a screenshot of UNC commit Armando Bacot’s Instagram that featured his two IMG Academy teammates Josh Green and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl in a recruiting graphic that showed them sporting the best uniform in college basketball.

It has been widely reported that Bacot is making a hard push for his two teammates to join him at Carolina. Green is predicted to go to UNC, with 247 Sports rating the commitment at 83 percent and PASR at 64.58 percent.

Robinson-Earl, whose father Lester Earl played for Roy Williams at Kansas, is predicted to commit to the Jayhawks. 247 Sports sees him as a 100 percent lock for Kansas while PASR rates the probability at 69.88 percent.

These two recruits will have official visits this week. Robinson-Earl’s visit is official visit is tomorrow, while Green is Saturday. Stay tuned to Tar Heel Blog for any developments on these two players after the weekend.
