UNC Football: The Tar Heels look to pick up their first win of the season in their home opener

Do the Tar Heels have any more Pitt magic in the tank?

NCAA Football: North Carolina at East Carolina James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

Sigh.

It has been just three weeks of the 2018 football season and Carolina had one of those three games cancelled because of a hurricane, yet it feels like an eternity. Watching painful football will do that to you, I guess. The Tar Heels’ loss to Cal and (even more so) ECU were the very definition of painful for different reasons.

Larry Fedora is a man fighting to keep his job, and that battle is definitely an uphill climb. Only the most optimistic fan could look at Carolina’s upcoming schedule and squint hard enough to find six wins. Some might argue you have to squint hard to find any wins. Yet, the one team who Fedora has consistently been able to beat has been Pitt. The Panthers are winless against Fedora’s Tar Heels since they joined the ACC.

Today’s game is the Kenan Stadium home opener, which will be a fun time for fans to take the new blue seats for a spin on what should be a very warm late September afternoon in Chapel Hill. Unless Nathan Elliott shows up in a way he hasn’t to this point in the season so far, that might be the only thing worth celebrating this afternoon.

Negativity is never fun. It is emotionally draining. Unfortunately, it’s hard to see too much light at the end of the tunnel right now. Perhaps the silver lining is that with expectations that low, you can be surprised by the positives. Hopefully we have plenty of those to discuss when this one is over.

We’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of all the happenings. Until then...

As always, regardless, Go Heels!
