Tonight probably shouldn’t feel like a big night for a team that is 1-2 on the year, but it kind of is. UNC was able to pick up their first win of the season against Pitt last week at home, but good feelings are always fleeting. If the Heels come out in Coral Gables tonight and get embarrassed, well, last week is just a memory.
However, if the Heels can show something against the Hurricanes, there might be a little more optimism for what the rest of the season holds. It feels like a lot of that hinges on whether or not Larry Fedora starts Nathan Elliott at quarterback. Elliott has not looked the part of a P5 quarterback, not even in the win against Pitt.
If Fedora wants to save this season and potentially his job, he has to give his team the best chance to win. Elliott is not that. Chazz Surratt is back from suspension for selling shoes tonight, so we’ll see what happens.
As my colleague Al Hood said earlier today, the biggest factor in this game might be the players UNC has back on the field following their four (now three) game suspensions. Will it matter? Stay tuned.
We’ll be back after the game with a roundup of all of the happenings. Until then, as always...
Go Heels!
