UNC Football: Brown Finalizes Staff Choices

North Carolina Tar Heels head football coach Mack Brown made his final selections for his staff this week.

Brown named Scott Boone as the special teams coordinator/outside linebackers coach, Stacy Searels as the offensive line coach, and Robert Gillespie was retained as the running backs coach.

Darrell Moody and Sparky Woods were named Senior Advisors to the head coach.

Searels, Moody, and Woods all have previous experience with Brown.

Searels, who was previously offensive line coach at Miami, was an assistant at Texas from 2011-2013. He has coached offensive linemen in the ACC, SEC, and Big 12.

Moody was an assistant coach at Carolina for 11 seasons, including the first eight seasons of Brown’s first tenure in Chapel Hill. His past 17 seasons have been spent as a NFL scout.

Woods goes way back with Brown, serving as his offensive coordinator at Appalachian State in 1983. Along with his numerous coordinator and assistant roles, he has 15 seasons of head coaching experience at App, South Carolina, and VMI.

Boone spent last season as defensive analyst at Wake Forest. Previously, he was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Nevada and linebackers coach at Arizona.

Gillespie will begin his second season as running backs coach at UNC.
