Tar Heels fall one spot to #13 in Week 11’s AP Poll

The Tar Heels are lucky to drop just one spot.

This past week saw zero mayhem in the top 10 but plenty of mayhem beyond that. The top 10 remains unchanged after every team went undefeated, but every team ranked 11-17 lost at least one game.

Here’s what the AP rankings look like for week 11:

AP Top 25

1. Duke (36)

2. Michigan (9)

3. Tennessee (13)

4. Virginia (6)

5. Gonzaga

6. Michigan State

9. Virginia Tech

10. Nevada

11. Florida State

12. Kentucky

25. Indiana

Where is UNC?

Amazingly, the Tar Heels dropped just one spot from #12 to #13. Apparently, voters really valued Carolina’s road win over NC State, because a 21-point loss at home to an unranked Louisville would normally warrant a significant plunge.

Biggest Winners

Aside from Carolina, Villanova jumped back into the polls after a couple solid victories vs. St. John’s and at Creighton. They are now #22. Ole Miss vaulted all the way to #18 after beating two top 15 foes in #11 Auburn and #14 Mississippi State. Kentucky jumped six spots to #12, recovering from its conference-opening loss to take down a couple SEC opponents.

Biggest Losers

The Mississippi State Bulldogs had a rough week. After losing to a mediocre South Carolina team and failing to defend their home floor against rival Ole Miss, they nearly fell entirely out of the poll, dropping ten spots from #14 to #24. Ohio State did fall entirely out of the poll after a pair of road losses in the big ten. They were previously ranked #16.

On the Outside Looking In

Louisville’s win over the Tar Heels has them as the first team outside of the rankings and just four points away from cracking them. The closest team after that is Nebraska, but they are 76 points behind the Cards. The next three in line are Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Iowa State.
