Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse, a survey of fans across college sports. Each week during the college sports season, we will send out polls to plug in fans to each team. Tar Heel fans can sign up HERE to join FanPulse.
College basketball is finally here! With the start of a new season comes some new initiatives, such as the inclusion of some basketball fun in our FanPulse survey. Before we get into those numbers, however, we must first and foremost quickly go over this week’s FanPulse college football top 25. There’s a good amount to cover, so let’s get started.
First, let’s take a look at the national survey results:

For the most part, this week’s results aren’t a whole lot different than last week’s, particularly when focusing on the top five teams in the country. Last night the College Football Playoffs committee announced their top four, and they have Penn State leapfrogging Clemson for the number four spot. Did our Tar Heels fans get it right? Or were the results the same as the national survey?
Let’s find out by taking a look at the THB top 25 results:

Remarkably, our fans are as smart as the committee, as all four of the teams that are “in” right now are also in according to your answers. The only differences are the order, which is a big deal when it comes to matchups, but also this is the first CFP ranking as well, and there’s still more football to come. Clemson and Georgia are also accurately the first ones out, and one has to imagine NC State will feel the wrath of an angry Tigers team this weekend.
Finally, UNC football fans are only a tiny bit less enthusiastic this week, as you are all 87.5% confident in this team, which is down slightly from last week. The Heels are on a bye week this week, so they should be able to rest up, get healthy, and hopefully get one step closer to locking up a bowl game when they visit Pitt next Saturday.
Alright, let’s move onto some basketball. This year’s team has a lot of questions, with the loudest one being who is going to step up and assist Cole Anthony in their quest to return to the Final Four. Despite a whole lot of unknowns prior to tonight’s game, our fans are 100% confident in this team, which is great to see at the start of the season.

It will be extremely interesting to see if you guys keep that same energy throughout the year, as this team will be fun to watch despite some inevitable ups and downs that will occur. However, it’s basketball, and Lord knows that wacky things are bound to happen, right? Just ask NC State about what happened last night against Georgia Tech.
So what do you guys think about this week’s FanPulse results? Do you have any beef with the top 25 results? Are you one of those that haven’t signed up for the survey yet that would like to voice your opinion on this year’s football and/or basketball team? Or, did you get to vote and maybe there’s some extra stuff that you would like to get off of your chest?
