The west coast road trip didn’t start ideally for UNC as they lost to Gonzaga in Spokane.

In some ways, it was more of the same. There was an extended run for the other team as the Tar Heels went into an offensive shell, allowing the opponent to build up a lead. At that point, it was always going to be hard for UNC to come back.

In some other ways, it was better than it was in other recent outings. Carolina broke the 80-point mark for the first time this season. Doing that on the road against a really good team without Cole Anthony isn’t the worst outing they’ve put up this year.

The good news is, the level of competition drops this time around. Next up for the Tar Heels is UCLA, who isn’t having the best season under first-year coach Mick Cronin. The Bruins come in ranked 115th at KenPom, placed right in between UC Irvine and UTEP. UNC, of course, has already lost to a team ranked lower than that, Wofford. You would hope they could use this game to get somewhat on track.
