UNC Basketball takes on Virginia in their first ACC road game of the year

Prepare for a rock fight.

NCAA Basketball: Battle 4 Atlantis-Oregon vs North Carolina Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

All you need to do to understand what kind of game is likely to be played today in Charlottesville is look at the scores of Virginia’s games to this point and process how difficult it has been for UNC to score at times so far this year. Predicting a game in the 50s seems like it might be generous at this point.

The Cavaliers’ defense has held opponents to just 44 points per game so far this season. UNC has been averaging around 71 points per game, so something is going to have to give there. Both teams are looking to bounce back after losses in their previous game. Carolina got blown out by Ohio State at home without Armando Bacot, and Virginia was similarly blown out by Purdue.

Charlottesville is always a tough road environment, and today should be no different. Carolina will need to play extremely well in order to come out of there with a win. Here’s hoping the fluidity that has been missing shows up today.

As always, we’ll be back after the game with a complete roundup of the happenings. Until then...
