After escaping with an overtime win against Miami on Saturday, North Carolina faces a short turnaround, and is back in action already tonight. Things don’t get any easier, as the Tar Heels will welcome Virginia into the Smith Center tonight.
The Cavaliers are also dealing with a quick turnaround, also playing on Saturday. Unlike UNC, they will be coming off a loss, having dropped another game against Duke over the weekend. The two defeats to the Blue Devils are UVA’s only ones so far this season. Even after the loss, Virginia is still sitting #3 on the KenPom rankings. (Also, they’re dead last in tempo, but no shocks there.)
Last year, the Cavaliers took both meetings between the two teams. They held the Tar Heels to just 49 points in Charlottesville, and then beat UNC for the ACC Tournament final two months later.
UVA was then able to use the ACCT championship as a springboard to a deep run in the NCAA Tournament .
